The largest cities are Charlotte and Raleigh - so start your job search in either of these and see what comes up.

Charlotte Jobs
I would strongly recommend RTP and surrounding areas over CLT. Unemployment is high here, lots of scam companies, and low pay. If Forbes nominated RTP as the best place for careers in 2010, I'd listen!
PS: Cary and Avery were #3 and $8 best career towns in entire US>

The Triangle area would be a good place to research. The general economic performance here has been a bit better than the national average, and it's an especially good place for entrepreneurial activity, in certain fields at least.
That noted, there's still a steady influx of highly educated people into the area, plus a large number of graduates, so the competition is fierce, and Ph.D.s gunning for entry level positions is very common here. Unemployment is consistently below national averages, but it's an easy place for highly skilled folks to end up under-employed for quite some time if you don't play your cards right- there is a LOT of competition.

It really depends on the industry and your experience and expectations, which you didn't tell us.
