Hi my husband and I will be stationed at Pope/Bragg in the summer. He's an AF officer, I'm a family counselor and fairly new to this. We do not have children so the schools don't matter but safety absolutely does and I'd like to know which areas/communities would be good areas to start our search in. We will be renting, not buying, because we'll be moving on to the next assignment in a few years. I've seen a lot of posts about this so I've started looking at a few places online. I'm pretty used to the "country" and I know every place has it's ups and downs. I've researched the stats. Just want balanced personal opinions from people who have recent experience with the area. Also, I'd like to try and keep his commute within the 20 minute or less range...
Thanks in advance

Stay on post. Closer to work and less hassle all around if you just want to rent and will move in a couple of years. The Army contractor runs all the housing now so they will get your BAH.

Southern Pines is not a 20 minute drive to Pope.

It's been a while since I asked for help. Thanks to all who responded. We have finally moved and decided that Sanford or Cameron will be the best options. We both decided against living on base and since my husband will work on Pope...his drive will be about 15mins. Fayetteville had some nice areas & properties but there is there are pockets of stop n go, time consuming traffic so it feels like it takes a while to get anywhere.
