2. Property tax (house, land)

3. Personal propery tax (boat, car, etc)

4. Sales tax

(5. "old" personal property tax was eliminated due to lawsuit, the "old personal property tax" taxed everything that you owned, furniture, lawn mower etc.)
All states are going to get their money from you in some shape, fashion, or form. I was living in Florida and the property tax there was more than I'm paying in income tax and property tax combined. And don't forget the cost of homeowner's insurance in other states. It was 4x as much as I'm paying here.

You are correct of course, but it just seems like folks in NC pay more than their fair share in taxes when you compare wages to tax rates. It's not like there are tons of high paying jobs (at least not where I grew up in WNC)

I'm personally not a fan of big govt or high taxation, I'd vote for smaller govt and less taxation, but that's just me, if I was on the dole, I'd be for more govt.

Tony

the annual safety and emmision inspection is a big pain in the butt! Cost $40

3% personal property tax (car value $18k) = $540

Tag = $20?? not sure how much of that now

total annual payment just to have a car in NC = $600+

Of course it will goes down as the car lost it valuie ..but damn..

Income tax is not far actually about the same as in most counties in MD.
Property tax too about the same

That's a high property tax rate on your car. If you lived in my area the bill would only be $101.70. My county tax rate is 0.5650 per $100.

My last motor vehicle safety & emissions inspection in May was $30 and my June license plate renewal sticker was $28.

Where do you guys live where there is a 3% personal property tax? In Wake County it's like .678%. My taxes on my car from last year were like $60.00. I pay well under $100.00 a year for my car including taxes, inspection etc.

It varies by county. I think they were referring to the state mandated 3% highway use tax you pay when you a buy a vehicle anywhere in NC.

I also wanted to add this from the link that someone else provided because I KNOW I only paid $10.00 for my last inspection in Wake County:

Cost for an Emissions Inspection

If your vehicle is registered in one of the 48 emission control counties, the total cost for a passed emission inspection $30.00: $23.50 for the safety/emissions inspection and $6.50 for the sticker fee. A safety-only inspection in a non-emission county (or for a vehicle older than a 1996 model year in an emission county) is $9.10: $8.25 for the safety inspection and $.85 for the sticker fee.
