Default Federal Disaster Areas

Gov. Mike Easley announced today the U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted his request to have 85 counties designated as disaster areas due to the ongoing drought in North Carolina.

I have really been feeling for those farmers. We have the inconvenience of brown grass, but so far it has not affected much else for us. I bet we all learn about grocery prices soon.

Folks in my area around Asheville are selling off their livestock and horses due to high cost or lack of locally grown feed. Those who can afford it are having hay brought in from eastern NC in truck caravans.
