Eastern NC towns are far more rough and economically depressed. Rocky Mount, Fayetteville, Lumberton, Kinston, etc. Not to mention all the practically dead smaller towns in rural eastern NC.

No way Gastonia is rougher.

Lol Gastonia. I'd walk around without a gun in Gastonia, but not Murda Mount

Gastonia versus Rocky Mount? It's like Baghdad and Aleppo arguing over which is worse.

Rocky Mount has an area going under redevelopment with the new CSX facility coming in. When I go on business I stay off 64. New hotels, Holiday Inn etc. all good no issues. Downtown has a nice restaurant being the Smokehouse. Yeah, it does have some dicey areas. Knock wood, been downtown at night leaving the Smokehouse with no issues, compared to Charlotte where I did not make it 10' out the restaurant door off Tyrone and was harassed and panhandled. Overall, I will rely on the natives for their opinion versus an article.

Goldsboro is worse and the most dangerous city in NC, RM is a close second, though...
