did you guys have problem merging to the highway when you first drive? i do. and i feel very terrify . i drive on I-40 started two weeks ago. everyone seems merge smoothly to the highway except me , when i wait close the the point of the waiting area i feel scared and nearly sweating and made me even harder to merge... the cars passed so fast ...
i always afraid i didn't give enough distance to the car already on highway and create accident ..

Just signal and merge with at the speed of the current traffic. Don't think of it as a "waiting area".

And yes, get some lessons.

practice on a less travelled highway - 540 during the day west of highway 55 will allow you to get to some good practice.

You have identified the problem and that is the first steep in solving it.
No I do not have a problem merging.
Start by googling merging and see if you can find anything that may help. Maybe have a friend ride with you and tell you went to merge so you get use to it.
Yes a professional teacher would be best. AAA offers courses and you could start there.

I have driven in most U.S. states, and many times in N.C. I can't remember any place that had a "waiting area". When merging onto a highway or freeway you should try to approximate the speed of the moving traffic when possible, be sure to signal, and merge. Sometimes you may need to slow down or speed up a little, but you need to be going with the flow. I recently worked with my granddaughter many times over the period of almost a year, helping her learn to drive. This was one of the scariest things for her. Stopping on a merging on-ramp to a highway or freeway will likely get you in an accident. I experienced a number of drivers doing this in the Florida panhandle area, and narrowly avoided and accident.

As other posters have said, get an experienced driver to do this with you, or find a good driving instructor. I think it is very cool that you posted here looking for advice!
