Today is the day.
I'm hoping North Carolina shows itself to be more sensible than the other southern states on this issue.

Very, very unconvincing.

Someone who would blindly vote for/against something because the bible tells them to is just an idiot.
You are no better than how they describe Al Quida to be anti-Western terrorists because they are told they will have 86 virgins in Heaven.
Al Quida is wrong, so where do you think that places you?

Yeah, why pay more taxes in NC to be treated as a second-class citizen? I was going to buy a house here, now I'm rethinking that seriously.

Wife and I have returned from the polls and casting our vote AGAINST the ignorance and hatred of bronze age superstitions.
And dang-it, there was no one there soliciting us to support their hate and ignorance.
The alarming thing is that as an unaffiliated voter, the poll worker was not aware that I could choose which primary to vote in. Had to get whoever was supervising to come over and clear it up for him. I did get the ballot I wanted.
The wife was signed in by a different person, and had no problem at all.

Did you vote in district 10 or 11? I've heard both ways as to if the change would go into effect for the primary or in November.

If you look back at the statistics, you can always see what happens when the majority gets the opportunity to decide a minorities fate...it's not fair obviously, and it usually doesn't end up looking pretty.

Your post was very well said. However, this has been a persistent problem ever since the Constitution was first drafted: how do you allow a democracy and still ensure that everyone has rights (because the majority will ultimately have the power). Madison wrote of this in "Federalist No. 10" - he prophesied what would happen when the majority is allowed to vote on, as you put it, the fate of a minority, it will always be to deprive freedom from the minority. Madison tagged early on that the majority of citizens in a free society is also its greatest threat, the most dangerous "faction" as he calls it. And we have seen this play out time and time again throughout our history. When our court system, which is meant to be insulated from the passions of the populace, find no legal reason to deny a minority rights and thus grant them, they are lambasted as "activist judges" when in actuality they are simply doing what they are meant to do, ensure that all citizens are treated equally under the law.

Getting ready to go vote myself AGAINST, just waiting on my partner and his mother, who he takes care of, get ready. At this point, its all we can do - though an individual's rights should never be "up for a vote," my rights are so I can only go and add my voice to other rational North Carolinians and hope that together we can shoot this thing down. But there are a LOT of people out there voting who are doing so because their preacher told them to (judging by the VOTE FOR signs in front of the churches) and they do not question the contradictions inherent in the argument that it has "always" been one man/one woman.

Good luck. I'm leaving shortly, myself, to vote against. I'm thinking of asking for the Democratic ballot, but unsure which of the 2 women to vote for, for US House, since they are both from Asheville.

Hi sb! I just came back from voting "against" in Union County. I selected an "Unaffiliated" ballot, where the way it's set up in Union County meant the only thing on the ballot was Amendment One. The voting location for my district was a church of all things. That irony wasn't lost on me. Given my political leanings, I thought the unaffiliated ballot was the most appropriate for me, since I tend to view the Democratic candidates vs. the Republican candidates as a choice between Tweedle Dumbs vs. Tweedle Dumbers!

Beautifully said. Thank you. People who don't want activist judges and unnecessary litigation should be voting AGAINST this piece of garbage, in droves.
