HELP!!! Looking to relocate to NC,
My family and I are looking to relocate to NC, where are some good places for a family with young kids, seniors and middle aged adults? We are looking for areas with gainful employment, good/decent schools, affordable living, etc. Everything that I have seen on this site is from 2009 and earlier. Can someone please point us in the right direction?
Thanks

Wow, you need to give quite a bit more details before anyone can help you here. What do you do for a living? Where are you coming from? What is your budget for housing?
Do you have a job lined up here? I would come and visit our fair state before trying to jump on this blindly.

Generally people move to where they find employment. It isn't quite to the point where one can pick an area and then go find work. Also, if one is looking for general labor or non-specific skill set positions, the competition will be tougher for employment.
Let's talk employment first, then others will be able to identify areas that might be suitable for the family. NC is a completely different state in 2012 than it was in 2009. In the last three years NC has started to experience many of the financial woes in government that the north country states have been dealing with since 2003-2004.

You need to define "affordable living" - that's a very relative term.
In addition, what do you consider "gainful employment"? Are you an engineer or a garbage collector?
More info helps us to help you better

Also want to relocate to NC!
I have been doing my research about the state of NC. I would like to relocate with my family of three. I have been looking at the Raleigh-Durham area. Since I will be migrating from the NYC area, this area of NC seems the most culturally diverse, offering all the amenities one would want in a metropolitan neighborhood, while maintaining its southern charm.
Since we have a daughter verging on school age, an excellent school system is important to us. The town of Morrisville appears to have some of the best rated schools in the area.
If anyone from North Carolina could advise. Is Morrisville an good place to raise a child and enjoy a great quality of living?
Thanking you in advance for your feedback.

If your premise statement reflects your values...
then pick a city or at least a very close in older suburb of a city.
(This will be basically true whether that city (or suburb) is in NC or NY or NJ)

The town of Morrisville...

...may be a very, very nice place... but it isn't a City.

And as with all relocating threads:
Nail down a good job BEFORE moving then choose the home location based on it.

What's the job market look like, I have experience in Data Entry/Administrative Assistant. And do not have a college degree, but I am thinking about something like Medical Office Assistant. My husband has does burial work and warehouse/production. He has a college degree for electronic engineering. It's just a 2 year degree from ECPI. He does computer work but due to his background from VA it is hard for him to get employment in his field and here in GA you must have a BS. WE are looking to rent from 600 to 700 for rent with a good school nearby for our 8 and 9 sons. And a company that will hire EX-cons at a good pay. My husband's last conviction was 1996 he has no rape or murder convictions. He is not a sex offender and his record has been clean for years. He came home worked went to college got married and takes care of me and our kids. We just trying to live a quiet life and one day open a computer business. We will love any help and advice we can get. Thank you very much.

Well, given all that info I can tell you where NOT to go...don't go to the bigger cities in NC like Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro or Wilmington. Frankly honey, you can't afford to live in any of them on your budget and get good schools.
Not trying to discourage you, just want you to know the reality, okay?
Look at small towns within an hour or so of bigger cities. I think a few good ones for you to consider would be towns like Mt. Airy, Newton Conover, Morganton or Wilkesboro.
Best of luck to you and your family!

The rentals in Fayetteville are typically higher than your budget. I'm assuming you need 2 or 3 bedrooms. A town like Sanford has lower prices. I don't know of many places that would hire someone with a record, except something unpleasant like roofing.
