Looking to move to Dunn, NC. We would probably be in the Midway School area because of a potential teaching job. A few questions: How are the schools here? How are taxes? What stores are near? Also looking for at least 2 acres of land to build a house on any areas recommended or maybe stay away from? Do they have 4 seasons? I have a 12 yo daughter and 10 yo old son any clubs/activities? Thanks for any and all help!!

here's a link that may answer some of your questions
Living in Dunn, NC

I lived in Fayetteville, 20 miles S of Dunn, for a year. If I recall, when we were looking to move we considered areas as far from my husband's job as Dunn, and the schools were good, but we decided country living was not for us so we moved into Fayetteville.
I don't think you'll find much in the way of stores there, there are listed some Carlie C's IGA (groceries) and a Lowes Foods (good grocery store) in nearby Erwin, but nothing in the way of Malls or shopping centers/strip malls til you get to Spring Lake or Fayetteville (I look at Yahoo yellow pages, try link)
Yahoo! Yellow Pages

Good luck

Isn't Dunn home to the IHOPP (International House of Pancakes & Porn)? I forget the name of the place but I remember seeing (it's been some time but I'm pretty sure it was Dunn) something labled, on their own advertising, as a "family restaurant and adult bookstore". It was right off 95 (if heading North, it was to the right). It may not be in Dunn proper but I'm pretty sure it was around there, definitely before Benson.

Default Dunn?! Are you kidding me?!

Dunn has GOT to be one of the rudest areas of the state of NC! The people there are extremely clannish and the residents don't do ANY business in the town because they are scared to death that their neighbor might possibly get ahead of them in some way.
The Government has supplied the majority of the income into this very small farming community for far too long. Dunn is a dying town and well deserving of it. There are a few really nice people who are trying desperately to make a life there but it's really hard. Nothing to do unless you are a redneck and want to act like a poor, uneducated hick.
Hardest town I've ever seen to try and fit in and get acquainted. Majority of elderly retirees who want the few remaining young people to do it all! It seems that the credo in Dunn is: "We need to all pull together and make this a better place to live!,,,,Why don't YOU DO IT! I'll watch!"

UNFORTUNETLY... I have to agree with RU12. In all the places I've lived, Dunn and Benson are the worst!!! There is nothing to be offered from these towns. I've lived in Erwin for 3 years and thats 3 too long. We are looking to move and i am trying very hard to get my fiance OUT of this area, I think he's finally coming around!

And to answer Ceezer ... NO there is no IHOP, matter of fact there isnt much to be desired as far as the restaurants go here either. 1 of my BIGGEST complaints. I like variety. If you want options you have to go 30 min. to Fayetteville or 45 to Garner.

we moved to Dunn last year and I hate it. my husband in the air force, stationed at Pope. He wanted to get away from the military area and my family lives in wayne county so we wanted to split the difference. I don't live in the city limits, but I have a Dunn address. I live in Sampson county. Living in the country is great, but nothing else about being in Dunn is great.

I'm hoping as soon as DH can retire from the air force we can move. I'm ready

Arrow Questions about Dunn, NC

We live in Mingo (Sampson County) but since we are very rural we use the Dunn, NC post office and do most of our shopping in Dunn as it is the nearest city to us. We have no complaints as we go into Dunn, take care of business and head out back to the country. Sure there is crime here but where is there a place where there is no crime??? Midway is a fine High School and they are currently building a new school to replace the old one. The school system is part of Sampson County. Land in this area runs from $10,000 to $20,000 per acre and the more rural the less you have to pay. No there is no IHOP here and the porn is off I-95 at the outskirts of Benson. Dunn is about 12 miles from Mingo or Spivey's Corner. Hope this helps!

I do not like Dunn. Areas south of Dunn seem better.
