Try one of the college towns

Pretty sure they are gonna need lots of photographing, and the stuff that goes with it.

I doubt there is a noticable shortage of photographers in any particular town. Without a distinct need, you can really chooses any town that you want to call "home".

ZX14TJ is right. There are plenty of people around NC who call themselves photographers.

What area of photography would you be doing? That may make a big difference.

Nature stuff....beach or mountains.

Kids/glamour shots stuff....larger cities.

I used to live in Hickory and you would be very surprised to find out how strong the interest is there for photography, as well as processing. Very strong clubs. Also Boone - program at AppState - and lots of interest in the surrounding area.

My son is a student at App and he has to travel back to Hickory to get his stuff formatted correctly to enter in contests. I would highly suggest you check out Hickory and Boone . . . you would find other very interested amateurs and also some professionals as well.

Plus - as far as commercial work - I think Hickory would be interested in a good portrait photographer. Just my feeling . . . you should make a trip there and check out the region.

Here is link to Viewmont Camera - great group of people - go by and talk with them - you may be quite surprised! They used to have a great Nikon group . . .Hickory is a surprise - don't be fooled by what you find on the surface.

Also - great entrepreneurial spirit there . . .

Don't just stop at Hickory, tho! Go up the 321 N corridor and check out Blowing Rock and Boone, as well. Lovely areas . . . wonderful people. Many opportunities for creative minds . . . you will be very pleasantly surprised!

I'd also be inclined to check out areas like Raleigh and Cary. Lots of kids to photograph there if that's your cup of tea.

Maybe approach a school system about getting the photo contracts for sports and yearbooks.
