Lightbulb Best Downtown/CBD in NC?

What would you consider the best CBD out of all the large cities in NC? This is not based off the skyline but the actual street experience, night life, stores, etc.

Davidson and Salisbury. Statesville and Asheville are nice as well. Wilmington has some charm too. With that said, I find all NC downtowns to be lacking when compared to Charleston. So in NC, it boils down to which downtown has the most to do as far as clubs, sporting events, live music, and dining options. Based on those factors, it's Charlotte.

I wonder why are downtowns are like that? In my opinion Charleston and Greenville, SC downtowns are the best in the Carolina's. I like downtown Charlotte but its missing something, I just can't put my finger on what is.
