Bill propose allowing to drink & carry a gun at restaurant
State lawmakers have reintroduced a bill that would allow people with concealed weapon permits to bring guns into restaurants that serve alcohol. Restaurant owners could still ban the practice but would have to post a conspicuous sign stating their disapproval.

In my opinion a concealed weapons permit is a concealed weapons permits... I think there needs to be a law (if there isn't already) defining or explaining that it is illegal to conceal a weapon when under the influence of drugs or alcohol, intoxicated, or even drinking or doing drugs period.
If that were the case.. it would make me a lot less worried about people carrying weapons... where ever they go.. as long as they are in their right mind. Just because a restaurant serves alcohol.. doesn't mean every person that goes in there with a concealed weapons permit is planning on drinking. For example, as a previous server, bartender, there are many late nights leaving work, with cash in tow, having to walk a distance to my car in the city that I would be fearful and would have appreciated that protection. Also people just going to restaurants with their family... that happen to be the type to carry their weapon with them everywhere... not even intending to have a drink. etc.

Agreed that's an excellent idea.

I'm all for the right to bear arms, but this sounds like big trouble waiting to happen. Seems it will just increase the risk that the guns will be used at some point, and that's rarely a good thing. Sure, there's the scenario where a gun-toting good citizen may thwart a crime because he's packing, but it seems that would be much more rare, and much more prone to accelerate a bad situation into a deadly one.
Tough call, though. I can see both sides of the argument.

Just as with driving and alcohol, guns and alcohol. Both can cause death or serious accident. It would be wiser for non-employees to have gun left in trunk of car.

Like I said... not everyone goes to restaurants just to drink... and those who drink and/or do drugs... should NOT be allowed to carry while participating or under the influence of anything. That should simply be made a law...

a bar is probably the worst place to allow weapons.

It is a violation to have alcohol in your blood while carrying. According to the classes I took. So that is not even the issue. NC law has so many exceptions to CCW it is almost not worth it. I can't carry at a parade or any place that charges admission.
Here is a good overview of Firearm Laws in NC.

As with anything, common sense has to be used. I really don't see the need to carry a concealed weapon into a bar. I was raised with firearms, and have been taught gun safety from a very young age. There is a time and place and any responsible gun owner knowns the difference.
