I almost signed a purchase agreement before realizing a BIG problem.
Daugher would start kindergarten this fall. Before finding the current house, we had targeted on the traditional schools and planned the moving in late August for her not to miss her very first school day. The base school of our "future house" is a year-round, and the traditional option is not only too far away, but not so desirable in terms of performance. So daughter would miss class even for track 4 which starts at the end of this month, and wife thinks missing classes is a BIG deal. The only solution I can think of is renting with a good traditional-based school and sticking with it this year. Our house will be finished sometime in October, so our rent term would be really short (with a maximum of 3 months from mid-Aug to Mid-Nov). I image this would be really tough to find. Are there better options I don't see here?

Default call the base school

i would call the base school. ask if you can register your child with your purchase documents. explain your situation. you might get away with being able to take her to school even if you live in a different school zone for a few months. in kannpolis they allowed us to register with our purchase documents.

Are you saying your house is currently being built? If so, you can register her even if you are not in the house. You need to provide a purchase agreement (contract) on the house...that is enough to register.

Default Called base school

Decided to stay at the base school of the future house. Plan to find out which track daughter is going to be in so that we'll plan the moving accordingly. I called the base school and they told me I would need to make a transfer request at Wake-County-Public_School-System since the house won't be ready in 45 days. Went there today and found out that they cannot process until I prove that I now live in or will live in wake county within 45 days. I now have a temp housing in Chapel Hill. Geeee, will have another temp housing because of this year-round school !!

Default 45

So there is a "45 days" rule people may not know!
