The five fastest-growing cities by rate all surround military base Fort Bragg: Raeford, Angier, Erwin, Coats and Dunn all grew by as least 4%.

Census estimates released Thursday show the town of Raeford had 4,826 residents as of July 2011, which was 4.7 percent more than on census day in April 2010. The gain was 215 people. Unincorporated parts of Hoke County are growing even faster, as builders continue to construct new neighborhoods that are popular with military families.

I don't know that I'd call any of these municipalities "cities".

At least not until Fayetteville annexes them.

Raeford, Angier, Erwin, Coats and Dunn are all incorporated and cannot be annexed by another city.

And it will grow even more given the BRAC decision.

Yes, I know. Which is why I thought the sarcasm would be fairly obvious.

I note the sarcasm from another reader, but I am not familiar with the area as a whole. I do understand that the town of Wade, NC is not far from Fayetteville. Is there any hint or possibility of a Fayetteville annexation in the future for it?

Annexation is basically a dead issue...the state has changed the laws so that the only annexation will essentially be undeveloped land that needs water/sewer to be developed. Anything already developed will likely not select to be included in a municipality unless it is being redeveloped.

Interesting. I live in Fay and the only town I even know of is Raeford on that list. I mean I've heard of the rest, but don't know where they are or anything at all about them. They must be verrrrry small

But yeah, stop moving here, there is no reason to move here unless forced by military. too much traffic as it is >.<
