Default Don't need no frigging front plate.

I retired to NC from NJ just so I don't need a front plate. Now I have a car with a nice clean front bumper and no stupid plate. If we have front plates the troopers might mistake us for out of staters and we all know how they pick on out of staters especially Northerners.

I wish the guy who ran into my car and then drove away had a front plate. Perhaps then I could have given the police some useful information and/or the guy might have been caught.

To the OP: there are sites from which you can create your own front license plate, just google it. You can have one made that refers to your residence (city/county), you may be able to repeat your license plate # (probably want to check the DMV on that) or perhaps one that sends a message "H8T SNRKE PPL". Average cost is ~$20 from the places I checked.

That was a short lived thing. IMO it was a foul-up somewhere, so rather than have a re-do the state concocted the b.s. story about visibility and used the allotment of red tags.
As for the OP, states the front plates are for toll booth purposes and law enforcement.

Used to be if you had a city plate of the city I formerly reside there was no charge to use the city dump.

Then there were the mandatory 'city stickers' that were to be displayed near the inspection sticker in Asheville. $10 bucks.
