Expired Registration (4 months)
Our daughter moved to NYC in January to start a job and she has had a car to use in my wife and my name. It was a six month position and she now driving here and moving back to NC.
I was just informed "Oh, we never got the car registration renewed in March. What should we do?" That's information I should have been asked when the renewal notice came in the mail, but wasn't.
From what I have read she cannot get the car inspected and she might end-up in court? Or possibly she and my wife will end-up in court which will teach them a lesson.
Any advice as to what steps we need to take appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Take it somewhere to get inspected. If it's blocked do whatever they tell you RE: DMV. You don't have to worry about court UNLESS you get a ticket for the expired inspection. I think that's the more serious of the two but they go together so they have to be fixed together. Try an inspection place first.

Thanks....I'll go to the place nearby that does my repair/maintenance work Monday afternoon with the VIN and ask them what they would suggest. Maybe there will be some good old government incompetence at work. Since digging further since I posted, her mother mailed her the renewal thinking it could be done online. She needed the inspection and didn't want to drive down. Well, you do some dumb things when you are 22. Even if you have a minor in math and A+ in 4 classes of Calculus. I'm sure the judges have heard everything, so as the story goes, "Tell it to the judge", because if it's court, she WILL be going!

All cars have to be inspected no longer than 90 days before it is registered and a new tag/sticker is issued. Because the car was not operating in NC I think getting it inspected will then let you register it again.Try this first .
