Well, bless your very little heart.

I wish you were the exception, but you are an example of so many who move here. You really need to get over yourself.

I want to thank you for at least being honest that you think you are better than the natives here. Too bad the examples you are offering are more an example of those that moved here from other places. I was not scared to get on the road before so many people from so many other places started driving here. Too bad they drive for so long in this state before they bother to read the driver's manual for NORTH CAROLINA. They keep finding fault with us because we are driving according to our driving rules and they are still driving by the strange driving rules in states where cars are stacked on top of each other.

In North Carolina when there is a stop sign you are required to stop and wait until the other road is clear. We almost had an accident because some driver from somewhere thought the driver at the stop sign took turns with the other road. I am still trying to figure out where anyone drives like that. I don't want to go there. I am not talking about a four-way stop. It was just a regular stop sign.

So when you feel it your right to rant about the driving habits of the natives, you ought to make sure it was a native doing it. People in North Carolina do enough things to be talked about on our own. We don't need someone blaming us for what we are having to deal with too from transplants.

I will say it again. You are WAY out of line and rude and condescending and you owe everybody that is a native to this state an apology. I welcome nice people to this state, but I have had more than I want of rude, condescending, ignorant transplants.

I work with mostly transplants and what I find amusing is, a lot of them truly are rude when they think they are being polite or accommodating. Being polite, thoughtful and courteous should be a natural reflex and not conscience effort. It all stems from upbringing and not location!

A discussion should be civil. You're trying to cause an argument because you're upset at the way some people drive. You're in no way trying to create a civilized discussion with what you're spewing out in your posts.

I have been here 20+ years.
Why live where you're unhappy? There was a saying that I've read and it stuck with me -- "Live where you love and love where you live"

You should be thankful to even have a job! I'm not even trying to be sarcastic or rude, check out the unemployment percentages. The moment you start being unhappy is the moment you should of started rethinking about everything that you're doing. There are jobs in other states that you can gladly apply for while still working here.. If you're fortunate enough to beat out the other thousands of applicants, you can sell your house, pack up and move. Unfortunately you're going to experience the same exact problems as you're experiencing here.

This reminds me of my experience with a Florida driver awhile back that cut me off and I nearly hit him due to his negligence. The basics of your first post suggest that I should now fear every Florida driver that I see, because as we know, a few drivers from Florida make up the entire population of Florida. I hate Florida and I'll never visit there now!

It has been known for a long time NC's educational system and it's workers are no match for the Northern and Mid-Western workers. We have a much better, fully funded educational system and the workers have more experience.
Believe it or not, I've never saw harder workers in my life (down south) and I'm not even joking. Yeah, you have a few people here and there that have the poor work ethic/ screw around, but you find that everywhere you go. Just because a person comes from "up north" or "down south" doesn't automatically give them a right-of-way to say "hey, we're better than you!". People are people, no matter where you live. The education system here, just like everywhere else in the states needs work. You can come from one of the poorest educated states and be extremely bright and intelligent. You're so bias, it's not even funny any more.

NC came looking for me. It has been known for a long time NC's educational system and it's workers are no match for the Northern and Mid-Western workers. We have a much better, fully funded educational system and the workers have more experience. To this day NC employers are in trade magazines, newspapers, etc.. trying to get people from out of state of work here because they cannot find qualified people in this state. Just a fact. This state needs to re-evaluate a lot of things. One of them being their educational system. Once they do, your born and raised will be better off.
Your life must suck. It seems clear that you hate NC and North Carolinians, yet you have been here for 20+ years. Ostensibly, you would like to gtfo of the state, but cannot find an adequate job back in the Northeast/Mid-West and/or something else like cost of living is keeping you here, like a 19th century Englishman stuck trying for his/her fame and fortune in Africa. I do feel bad for you.

As to your original post about driving I have driven in the Northeast a fair amount and those folks are crazy as hell. Particularly on I-90. They do use turn signals, but they believe a turn signal is license to cut across 4 lanes of highway to an exit that is less then 1/8 mile away. Secondly, when up there you will undoubtely experience what is known as the "Boston left turn." Lets just say there is a reason it is called the Boston left turn and not the Durham left turn, or the Greensboro left turn. Then you got the folks who are impatient as hell and turn a 2 lane road into a 3 lane road because they want to make their left/right turn now, damn it! Additionally, people will straight up not let you on to the highway. It is no fun to shoulder drive and or try to go from 0-60 in the 10 feet of on ramp you have left because someone is too lazy to merge into the left lane. As to tailgating the heck out of people. It happens up there all the time. This is because up there tailgating is actually safer then the alternative. If you are like me and you leave a safe driving distance and you are driving I-90 you are essentially inviting some a** to try and and cut through the space between your car and the car in front of you so they can get to the lane on the other side of you.

As to Philly traffic that is a giant abortion. You will know this when you are caught literally between a bus and a hard place. Sometimes I wonder if the naming of the Schuylkill expressway was intentionally a cruel joke.

All in all every area has its driving quarks NC's are relatively mild.

And how are you so certain it is natives doing this, with nothing more to go on than a license plate?

It's obviously an attempt to offend certain people and nothing more.

This thread was not used to offend people. For the comments about Yankee belonging in the Civil War Forum. If you have not experienced bias in this state I am happy for you. Either that or you choose to turn a deaf ear as to what exists here. In NC come here for vacation and spend your tourist dollars, What? you mean you are going to move here. Then the attitude changes. As long as you keep your mouth shut and agree with the locals and don't speak your mind you will be tolerated. Not only myself but others who have relocated here for their jobs have experienced the same thing. Some examples (you took our jobs, supervisors who won't hire someone because they are a Yankee, supervisors that go out of their way to harass you because your are a so called Yankee, go into a store and be starred at and called a damn Yankee. And who titled Cary (Concentrated area of relocated Yankees?). You think we are rude. Rude is what rude gets. I'm not saying the whole population is like that. They are not. But there is a percentage that makes living in this state not a pleasant one. The farther you get away from the capital area the worse it is, especially in smaller towns. Case in point our company recently hired a new worker from out of state and their first comment was "It's like the civil war is still going on here".

I mean occasionally there is some bias towards outsiders, but I think that is relatively minor if you are not trying to impose your way of life and way of doing things on the state. I have lived in North Carolina most of my life, and have had family who were down here long before I was born, but originally I was from the Northeast. The fact is people are generally very friendly down here, and many only become embittered when you approach with a superior complex about how much "better" things are done in the north. It is clear that this is basically the root of most of your problems with North Carolina and "the natives."

It is so clear because in the course of this thread you have complained about how "the natives" drive, how there education system is backwards, how their work skills are inferior, and how they are generally backward looking and living in the past.

The fact, is I have lived in this state a long time, most of my life, and I have been to and worked places that are about as far from Raleigh both distance wise and in terms of ethos, as you can get and still be in the state. The fact is while people do like folks with ties to the area they generally don't discriminate and are quite amenable folks as long as you are not acting as though there is some 21st century American version of a certain 1899 Rudyard Kipling poem.

I find it funny that some transplants have a "I am superior to you" attitude and wonder why they are treated so badly. It reinforces the stereotype. It's not because you are from the north. It's because you are being an obnoxious prick.

I actually find that more northerners discriminate based solely on where somewhere is from than vice versa.
