Four years have past and have gotten a notification that I must be retested. I happened to be talking to a neighbor last nite who told me that he and his wife were recently retested and they didn't have to go through the whole test but rather just three questions that were very easy. Is this true? Hope so.

That might be new, I had to retake a test. They were big on road signs. Here's a link to the manual, if you don't already have it. http://www.ncdot.gov/download/dmv/ha...dl_english.pdf

"retested" or you just need to "renew" your license?

If you have no tickets in the last 4 years, you only have to take the eye test. The eye test does test your sign recognition quite thoroughly.

Retested? I haven't tested since I was 16, I'm now 44.
To renew you do a vision screening and a sign "test", you just look into a viewer and tell the officer the signs you see on the screen.

I considered that a test. Just not the full blown version.

That's nice...I didn't bother to read the comments, just the OP...and OP said "written test".
