Is there a site I can use? I know housing is much cheaper, but it looks like gas is about the same price. How about car insurance? I hear that even electricity is cheaper!

I use this cost-of-living calculator: Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed It starts with your expected income. The biggest difference will be in property taxes if you buy.

With the exception of the real estate related costs...
and allowing for a few odd hiccups between one expense vs another...
COL will come out to about the same almost ANYWHERE in the US.

You've obviously never lived in NJ

You have to include RE costs and RE taxes they are the biggest COL difference.

Yes everything else is pretty much a wash.
