More people moved out of Ohio last year than moved into the state, but the state is losing fewer residents than it has in many years partly because its economy is improving, a Dayton Daily News analysis shows.
I'm an Ohioan living in North Carolina, my family moved here in 2006. Much to my surprise, I met 3 other people at my high school who were also part of the exodus, and 2 others from other high schools in the area. All 5 are also from the Cleveland area.
Keep in mind in regards to Kentucky that you have to consider people moving out of Cincinnati and into the suburbs. Even if they just jumped the river to one of the wealthy developments in Covington, they're counted. I imagine North Carolina is the most popular destination for people who truly want to get away.

It's nothing new either. A whole lot of folks from Ahia were coming here back in the 90s. It seemed like every new kid in school was from there back then.
New York had a net migration of -62,348 to North Carolina between 2000-2007.
A few months ago I went to a restaurant opening in Raleigh with some random folks. We ended up talking about where we were born and none of us were born in NC.
I made the exodus from New York, but it was before these stats were taken.
