Default Monroe, NC here we come!

We are making a cross country move to Monroe, NC from Oakland, CA next month. I am excited and nervous at the same time. This is a big move for the whole family...any suggestions on fun places for kids, teens, what about schools...what about women clubs. Any thoughts would help.

Union county is underneath enormous stress from all the growth. Last night the county voted to restrict future housing develpments. Developers must either wait for new schools to be built before any more houses are built, or pay $15,000 extra per house.

On the upside it seems some are finally addressing this unrestricted growth. It just cannot continue and people continue to enjoy a high quality of life. 70% of schools are overcrowded in Union county! - I need to add to this statement. I know many will read it and say, oh lots of schools are overcrowded....on the news they did a fly over of the schools which evidently many students never set foot in the actual school and attend class in trailers.

On the downside, it wont stop some developers from building, but they will pass the higher cost of housing to the buyer.

I thought Union County imposed a moratorium on building more like a year ago.

That may be. Residential and commercial may be seperate issues. Either way, time to put the brakes on for a bit.

Agreed. Thank you for the reply.

Nice to see folks on here from Monroe. We were scheduled to close on a house there, the deal fell through but Monroe is still a possibility.

From today's Charlotte Observer:

Union OKs law to slow growth
County tells developers: Wait for schools or pay fee of up to $14,953 per home
JULIA OLIVER

Developers now face more hurdles to build subdivisions in another of Charlotte's fast-growing suburbs.
