Not that it really matters but as far as downtown goes, Uptown CLT will physically have 2 skyscrapers under construction by may, a 9 story embassy suites, the baseball stadium and Romare Bearden park and streetcar line and blue line extension line is under construction, another hotel tower should be announced by BB&T stadium, an apartment tower by BB&T stadium should be announced, Crescent will build 2 skyscrapers on stonewall and more than 3 low rise ~200 units apartment units are U/C or announced in uptown.
Charlotte's newest office tower (crescent site) could be another tallest outside of Charlotte in NC putting Raleigh's tallest around the 9th tallest in CLT (if you're not counting the hideous spire).
Not that it matters at all who has bigger buildings. Just find it interesting how differently the 2 cities develop despite the metros being nearly the same size.
"Sorry folks, I don't think you have a clue about Brier Creek or planning in general."
My comment was really directed towards urbancharlotte but I will lump you and your "25 years of planning experience" in with it after that last statement.
"Forgive me my nonsense as I also forgive the nonsense of those who think they talk sense." -Robert Frost
How's that for some enlightenment?
Which statement is that? That the original Bedford plan was cookie cutter houses on cul-de-sacs? Do you find that sort of development superior to what we ended up with?

Stonewall, Tryon and College where Goodyear is. Between the Westin and the Observer.
This could be up to a 40 story office tower along with a second tower (hotel/residential) and around 50k-100k+ retail space and is supposed to be very unique to the southeast - even compared to Atlanta. It's supposed to be very transformative. I can't wait to see the master plan! I'm thinking we get more details soon.
This project will continue to show Charlottes "up by the bootstraps" mentality touted by Mr. Obama and flex our muscle yet again.
But the other small 20 story towers going up are nice to. Shame they won't make a single impact visuallynon our skyline from andistance (except 1, sorta). More infill is good.

Ok, I got you. I'm familiar with this site. I thought you were saying it's going to be the tallest outside of uptown. But I understand what you're saying now. It probably would be the tallest in Raleigh.
So, the BEA had released new estimates for MSA. Here is how Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham stack up. The following numbers ate from 2008-2011 and are in chronological order
Raleigh-Durham: 87.997, 90.168, 95.030, 98.323
Charlotte: 111.485, 109.324, 113.861, 117.832

Interesting thanks! I believe these are the GDP in current dollars (in billions of dollars per year).
Those are great gains for both metros. It also seems like both are doing well compared to other cities:
