The stretch of rural highway that our church cleaned up (under the Sponsor a Highway project) was down the road from a Walmart. You wouldn't believe the number of plastic bags we picked up, from the road, the ground, caught in trees, etc. I guess people pitched them out the window on the way home?

We have about 1/2 mile of road frontage on a state route. To be honest, ive gotten to the point where I don't care about small paper products, but beer bottles, liquor bottles, styrofoam plates, Chick-fil-a styrofoam drink containers, giant cardboard boxes, packing material, diapers, drink bottles used as urine containers...really people?
It's about the same amount as it's always been. More can always be done to clean it up but nobody wants to pay for it. I guess they figure the magical trash fairy does all the work.
I clean up a couple stretches of road near my home several times a year, I do it for free. It doesn't take more *money*, it just takes more civic pride.
These Adopt-a-Highway things aren't enough to fend off all the litter on the roads. I want to see prison crews working to keep this state clean by picking up garbage along all major roads in the state.

If we must...
I'd much rather see people develop enough self control to keep their garbage INSIDE their cars.
The lesson and practice might influence other aspects of their lives as well.
Maybe some truly substantial fines being assessed (and enforced) will help that along.
It's soooo bad. The other day there was a couch cushion in front of my mail box, it was water soaked so I don't think it flew out the back of someones truck Besides they like to drive and have all the crap fly out the back of their trucks so by the time they get to the dump there is hardly anything left
Ah, the annual winter thread of complaint of trash on the road.
Reason this thread occurs every winter is it to cold for county prison crews to.pick up the trash.
All the other warm seasons I think the roads look good except pocket areas.
I will give the DOT praise for removing blown tire treads. Usually when I see them they mostly not there the next day.
Adopt a highway program is a joke. Inever seen these areas stay Preston's.
Yes people shouldn't litter but pickup trucks meed to do better job in securing there load.
I was going up 85 on Monday and saw lots of white large trash. Considering it was all the same color and size it more than likely blown out of a truck.
In the Spring it will get better.
