Default Looking to relocate to NC

Hi everyone. I'm from CT and my husband and I are contemplating moving to North Carolina. We absolutely love the state. However we can't agree on an area to move to. I would need to be within 20 miles of an area where I can get a good job. I'm an accounting clerk. I love the Mooresville area but he would like to live in the mountains. We both agree we would like to live in a small town but would want shopping and entertainment within a 15-25 minute drive from home.
We do not have children yet but are planning on starting a family soon. So schools would also be important. We do not have tons of money to spend so towns that are becoming more populated and more expensive to live are not of interest to us.

We're going to scope out town in two weeks to see what areas we really like. What areas should we check out?

If you judge people, you have no time to love them

If you are trying to stay close to the Charlotte area for the amenities in shopping, entertainment and employment but also have mountain views I would suggest the following cities.

Kings Mountain, North Carolina
to be near Kings Mountain.

Bessemer City, North Carolina
Southern end, to be near Crowders Mountain.

Badin, North Carolina
You will be near Badin Lake and the Uwharrie Mountain Chain.

Winston Salem, North Carolina
Pilot Mountain is within 30 minutes and the blue ridge mountains are within two hours.
River Haven, North Carolina
You will be near Lake Tillery and Morrow Mountain.

These cities are within 30 minutes up to an hour from Charlotte.

My suggestion is the great liitle town of Taylorsville. You could go to Hickory or Statesville for work or things like movies or shopping, but still live in an area with some mountain views. Granted, the Brushy Mts aren't huge, but they are scenic. And Taylorsville is a really nice community.

Statesville would be good. Convenient to Charlotte, Winston Salem, and Hickory.

All of those suggestions are great. Being near Charlotte is one of the best areas if you like the mountains or the beach! I currently live in Denver and I really enjoy it. Great shopping nearby and of course the lake. Denver is a growing area but not yet too expensive. You shouldn't have a problem with finding what you are looking for... Good luck!!!

Default Looking to relocate to NC

DixienPinch:
We relocated to NC from Massachusetts 10 years ago and are not sorry that we did. Unlike you we wanted to be near the ocean and currently live about an hour's drive from Wilmington. In you case, seeing your post, we would suggest you look at Statesville as it fits the bill for what you want. There are other small towns near Charlotte and with easy access to thge mountains but this one should be on your priority list of places to investigate. You will love the Tarheel state!
