Default Can anyone help me understand the tax costs living in NC?

Possible move from UK and I'm trying to assess what my nett $ pay will be after all state taxes - can anyone help?

Individual Income Tax Information for North Carolina

Depending upon your filing status and your taxable income, the North Carolina tax rate ranges from 6 to 8.25 percent.

In addition, many states with lower income taxes make up the difference with higher property tax, sales tax, hotel/tourist taxes, toll roads, etc. The bottom line is that you don't get something for nothing anywhere. And, if a state puts in a system that is inequitable (like the current Florida Homestead laws) it will only run into trouble in the future like Florida has now.

At the end of the day, it's more about total cost of living and quality of life. The first is easy to compare objectively via a number of website tools. The second is subjective. So, do your homework and do what's right for you.
