MetLife announced that it would create more than 2,600 jobs in Charlotte and Cary by 2015. Gov. Pat McCrory said the state would offer a tax incentive package totaling about $100 million.

The jobs will be split evenly between Wake County and Mecklenburg County. MetLife will move its U.S. retail center to Charlotte and its global technology and operations center to Cary.

MetLife announced that it would (MOVE) more than 2,600 (EXISTING) jobs (TO) Charlotte and Cary
I wonder how the people in Hartford and the other towns hit by this job loss see it.

The same way we'll feel in a few years when they leave here and go to Bangalore.

Hartford already lost their NHL team to North Carolina, so look at it this way: There's 2,600 potential Huricanes fans on the way. All jokes aside, many folks on here have asked the question "What about jobs GOP?". Well, from the news reports, this is the 3,000th jobs announcement for metro Charlotte specifically in less than 3 months. I suspect the jobs announcement totals for the entire state are higher than Charlotte's. For the record, this is the largest single jobs announcement in state history. The only downside I see to this is that Cary and Charlotte's Ballantyne area don't currently have the infrastructure to support more people.

That question is "what about NEW jobs, GOP?".
How about that one? Any new manufacturing? Any new assembly?
Any good pay, low skill jobs to meet the need of the biggest unemployment segment?

See the distinction? Simply shifting jobs from one (higher paid) area to another (lower paid) area
does not create an aggregate gain for ANYONE involved (aside from MET life). Not even the 2600
who might work there, most of whom experience a net financial loss when shifting location,
will gain when employers shift employment like this.

Which is true of most metropolitan areas everywhere.

Another example of corporate welfare. With $100mil in tax incentives, that equates to roughly $38,000 per worker that the citizens of NC will have to support to balance the tax burden. How about we lower taxes for everyone instead of just big business?

You could do the same thing Metlife did. Move somewhere with a lower rate than the place you are leaving.

Pretty simple, really.

Take your own advice buddy

You asked "where are the new jobs GOP?" (NC). Well, these are new jobs for NC. This is a net GAIN for NC. It's a loss for MA and CA but those arent run by the GOP that you are asking to bring jobs.
