true but they are talking about closing schools. Which school do you think would they likely shut down? UNCG or the NC School of the Arts? Moving a major from UNCG to UNCSA would hardly save money compared to shutting one of the schools down. The small schools in the UNC system need to be worried.

If they even consider touching an HBUC and ending history of those great institutions all hell is going to break lose and Jesse Jackson and the national level of the NAACP is going to get involved. We're going to have a blood bath. The republican party is already viewed as being insensitive to minorities. Do we really need to draw that kind of negative national attention to our state?

UNC School of Arts would be the one to go. They're not going to shut down a large university like UNCG nor will they close any of the HBCUs due to the pure hell that it would cause in the national media.

I thought you were being sarcastic at first, but you're not. Closing down a lower performing school should be looked at, regardless if it is a HBCU or not.

Of the 15 normal universities, 5 are HBCU. Their retention rates and graduation levels continually lag behind. If one was closed, then the other four would benefit from a higher quality students, which would bring up the UNC System profile.

Get your blind racist out of here.

I put a case of Bud that UNCSA stays. It is to unique to go.

If the black colleges are off the table for political reasons, that really screws the process and flushes away any rationality, in an econmoic sense, from the process.

A major concern should be all the schools teahing teachers. This administration really is no friend of education, and the state house is rabid anti-teaher, so why spend money on educating teachers when teachers are cut more often than a surburbanites front yard.

Oh, lets make it 10 cases. I just saw where the head education budget writer is from Winston-Salem.

the education budget writer better hope it doesn't backfire on him because most of the big UNC schools have programs that are found at UNCSA. The argument could be made that there is no need for a separate school for the arts. He seems more concerned about shutting down UNCG film/arts program because it creates competition with UNCSA. Its that Winston-Salem vs Greensboro thing again.

My bets are that the GOP isn't going to be stupid. They know whats going to happen if they even hint of closing an HBCU. I think it would even become a national issue.

I would see UNCG is the most vulnerable of all. But it will be a political decision not a rational one, so who knows. If you have been to UNCSA you would realize it is on another level from any other film departments in the state, and all but six in the world. You really are not comparing two of the same.

Speaking of comparing two of the same, I still believe that education departments will be on the chopping block. But we will see.
