All 3 of those are bad choices outside of the mountains except for oranges which can not be grown commercially any where in the state except for the outer Banks areas which are even then pushing it. Watermelon, corn and pumpkin would be just fine. Personally if you want to grow cherries and apples Massachusetts would be much better imo. You can try cherries and apples in NC but it would have to be higher elevations.
