Where are these people?
We didn't have "thousands" of choices, more like, FL, Washington DC, possibly some West Coast cities. But, the west coast was just too far from family & our lifestyle for us to consider, & D.C. is just as expensive as NY... FL's climate? fun for vacation. We would miss the seasons.
Maybe I am just a tad jealous that there are people out there that can pick up on a whim and choose some place from a magazine list!
Truth is most people I have met got transferred here, or stayed after school, or got a job secured before coming... and thought about it & planned it for years.

There are far more places in the US that are affordable than the areas you just mentioned. That, plus the areas you mentioned really aren't affordable. lol. The West Coast? The real estate market in San Francisco and LA make the NYC area look like a bargain, DC isn't much better. This is a great country all around, I find it very hard to believe that North Carolina is the only place that a family can live a good life for an affordable price with decent paying jobs. Yes, it is an area where that is possible (for now), but it's not the only one, not by a longshot. It's obviously a different situation altogether if your job was simply transfered here; you have no control over that and it was clearly a good decision to go with your job you liked it.

iminformed dosent sound like he was happy here in LI and dont think he could be happy anywhere. If you moved for a job I hope you would be getting NY pay or more .. so whats the problem not enough irocs ... to many pickups .. well im a pickup man...

Pretending for a moment that this sentance makes any grammatical sense; here's my response to what I could gather form it:
1. I'm not from Long Island, I have no idea where you got that from. I am orginially from Upstate NY but have lived in Wake County for almost 12 years.
2. Never really had any serious financial trouble in NY or NC, I moved mostly for weather and admitedly, because Raleigh and NC were "all the rage", and I figured it must be great if everyone is talking about it so much. I wasn't unhappy when I was living in NY and I'm definitely not unhappy now. I have a wife and three great kids; not everyone who moves for a non-job realated reason is doing so because they are unhappy. It's true for people moving to NC and just as true for me moving to NY.
3. I have no idea what an iroc is, and hold nothing against pickups. I see just as many pickups in Rochester as I do here.
4. I'm moving back mostly for family reasons, but also because I've realized that while NC isn't a bad place at all, it's also not all it's cracked up to be and is changing, IMO for the worse, pretty fast with all of the growth.
5. I may have come off harsh, but I am really only trying to offer advice. If it really does bother you that your hometown has changed so much with growth and outsiders moving in..... the same thing is happening in much of NC, especially in and around Charlotte and Raleigh. Why does it have to be NC?

I haven't seen any news reports or anything enticing me to move to NC. I wish I had I probably would have moved sooner. I do hear about the Phoenix area everyday though. Maricopa county in AZ is the fastest growing county in the US.

It seems the ones that have had trouble in NC have financial trouble . Thought they would solve there problems with afordable priced homes in NC compared to where they were from. I have just been fortunate that years ago when I couldnt aford a house here , we went through with it and now ten years later I can benefit from a major increase invalue. So now if my financial burden is half of what it is here ,and I can work for my employer there and just have that job instead of having 2 jobs . I just might have time to coach the team , see the game , take a bike ride with the family, walk the dog ,race my racecar , etc.... ...

lizann Ms. Rhode Island I guess you didnt want to pay high heating oil prices either. You also said you were a broker in one of your posts on another thread . Why are you so negitive on people . If the last 4 years have been bad for you make a change .
Im sorry it hasent been everything you thought it would be for the both of you and your not the source of my financial observations ,that has come from other threads. you guys are just negitive.

Sounds like Lizann was one a transplant at one time and now wants to close the door. I see she made a nice living selling Real Estate too. Sounds like she wants me to feel guilty about cashing in on the nice profit I made in Az and buying a house for half the price in NC. I don't feel guilty and if I would have played my cards right like a lot of people in AZ did the last 3 years I could have retired comfortably in NC like Lizann. But when I get to NC I'll have to work.

Lizann is a Yankee??? Hmmm, so much resentment from someone who moved here herself and then made a living moving other people here? I don't get it. It's one thing to try and tell it like it is, but you do come off a bit like a Southerner who is outraged by the "invasion".
I was a realtor in NJ and I know it's a very difficult career. I can't imagine, though, making my income selling homes to NYers, and then complaining about all the NYers moving in.

See you guys just dont want to hear anything that anyone has to say that is in a negative way about NC, you just insult and say we dont know what we are talking about, but everyone saying it has lived there fora long period of time, and Yes Apex and Cary and Raleigh has been in the news for a couple of years now so unless you dont read or watch tv it was implanted in there somehow. NC is a nice state, but that doesnt mean it is a nirvana, plenty of things wrong there as well, it was not only finacial trouble that happened to us it was a clash with people with whom the civil war has never ended, slow way of life(more like a crawl) and just the culture in general, visiting is alot different than living, just because your visit went beautifully doesn mean in a year it will be, we are just trying to show both sides, so dont attack us for it. I personally hope it goes better for you than many I know.

Who's not wanting to hear anything? How do statements like "I'm happpy here","this was a great move for my family", "We fell in love with [NC-Town/City]", "I'm so happy to be out of NY/NJ/CA/TX/MA", translate into a Nirvana statement? The "zings" weren't one sided, fiery responses went back and forth.

Do you know how many times my rep has been hit and nasty things said in the comments area due to the fact that I had some not so positive things to say, and alot of people commenting have only been there a few months, I said the same thing, they all talk like nothing can ever go wrong and wont and that NC is just heaven, one person has said. I hope it is the best move they ever made and all things are roses, but people need to see both sides, the negatives have been posted in other forums as well and same thing happens, we know nothing, we are angry yankees or smart a** remarks are made.

I, personally, don't feel I was attacking anyone, or that I'm being attacked. Neal1, you stated your feelings about trying to make it here without hostility, and I think most of us appreciate that. No one here thinks it's Nirvana in NC. That's been said over and over again. IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!!! We get it! But my issue above was the anger towards newcomers from a transplant. I don't think it's fair to come here and then want the growth to suddenly stop just because now that you've made NC home, you don't want any changes. That's a different spin than people like you, or i'minformed who just didn't like it and are getting out, or got out.
It's a little annoying to keep reading that we newcomers, or soon to be transplants don't want to hear anything negative about the area. Especially because we haven't really heard anything SO negative-but rather a lot of negativity. Y'all have a huge audience here. Try stating what the negatives are and how things are changing in a different tone and you could make some kind of difference. And I don't mean that directed towards anyone specifically. I just think a whisper sometimes gets a better response than a shout.

I have tried to state what our experiences were with the state and got met with alot of hostility, so I now do not state our opinions in full, I do agree that newcomers need to not complain to the locals about what they percieve is wrong when in fact that is how they live and it isnt wrong to them, that is why we left we didnt agree so instead of fighting with everyone we left. I am not bitter anymore( but my husband is so I do not let him on this forum!!!!) there is alot about the state I loved, the mountains are wonderful and so are the beaches, I had a great time there.
And no you were not attacking anyone, but it is funny how some will be negative and the next person makes a snide comment about them, or will put something nasty on their rep area.

In regards to the reputation, hit it's a shame it's used for spite, but in reality it was never meant to be this thing that people across all of city-data have embraced. If someone is being outright disrespectful you can report them to the moderators and report the thread. Unfortunately no moderator can tell who sent a nasty comment cloaked as negative feedback.
