We have moved from NJ to Taylorsville, just north of Hickory. We are looking for Christmas things to do and places to go. We knew all the places to go in NJ, PA , DE . Now , we need new places to spend December. These can be light displays, candlelight history places, gardens
The Biltmore Estate (Asheville), Tanglewood Park (near Winston Salem), McAdenville (between Charlotte and Gastonia), and Stowe Botanical Gardens (also between Charlotte and Gastonia). All are great, but McAdenville is free. You're in a good location to see all of these with no problem.

Thanks for all of the great places. What is there to do near the Stowe Gardens if we want to go down into that area during the day?
wow, nobody mentioned McAdenville yet? The lights there are awesome every year [a bit of a drive, but worth it]. Tanglewood is good, too. If you're into living history, Old Salem has some neat Christmas programs, too
Agree about Mcadenville. You can also walk the route as well. Its been a while since I last went but it seemed like stepping into another world...lights everywhere, an entire small town completely lit up, Christmas music, very cool.
