I am an artist leasing out a space in Raleigh. I didn't sign a lease agreement. I was just asked to pay 200.00 per month for the space with 30 days notice of when I would be leaving. I gave my 30 days notice and when I did, the owner asked if she could take pictures of the space with my things in it. I agreed and thought she was trying to lease the space for the two months following, that I might hear from her as to when she needed me to remove my things. I didn't hear so I went there durring business hours to retrieve them and the whole place was remolded and my things where gone. When asked where they were I got "I don't know". I later got an email asking for the past 2 months rent or I will not receive my things back (storage fee). Does
anyone know if I can take any legal action or can she just hold my property for random?
Without a written lease it becomes more difficult, but I suspect if you file a suit in small claims court you could have it out in front of the judge and perhaps recoup something.

So, you gave 30 days notice, then left your things in the space for two more months when you were not paying rent. Is that correct?
