Default Looking for a good city to move to

My husband and I are looking for a good place to move to in NC we have a 3mo baby and he is finishing his Master's in Acupunture. We are looking for some place where we can live in a city (big or small) one where there is things going on in the arts and residential downtown since we don't want to drive everywhere. We like NC for having mountains and ocean.

Charlotte has a thriving downtown area and has a big arts scene. NoDa (the North Davidson district of downtown Charlotte) is one of the nicer, more affordable areas of downtown (correct me if I'm wrong someone) with lots of art places. There area 14 condo towers going up downtown, 5 with 20+ floors and 2 with 50 floors. Some go well over 1 million, but there are some small pockets uptown that are much more affordable. I'm just saying that to show how much residential growth is going on there. Charlotte has a good uptown transit shuttle that's free. They also have city buses and big, nice transit center. They're now building a light rail system and planning a north/south trolly route and west/east street car route. Charlotte's uptown area is REALLY up and coming! Good luck in your search!!!

I like Charlotte, great downtown, lots of arts and museums, and better career chances. If you are looking to move to Charlotte try to find a home or apartment in Southern Charlotte. Best zip codes in Charlotte (in my opinion) are 28277, 28226. Those have great schools, and best areas! They are about 15-20 minutes from downtown. Good luck on whatever you pick!

Charlotte. About 2 miles from "Uptown" Charlotte is NODA where there is an art gallery crawl every 1st and 3rd Friday nights. SouthEnd about 1 mile south of Uptown has a gallery crawl too. Several intown neighborhoods in Charlotte are great.

All the Wards (1st, 3rd, 4th), Plaza-Midwood, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Chantilly, SouthEnd, NODA, Wesley Heights are all close intown neighborhoods that offer something different with easy access to Uptown Charlotte.

Biggest return on Real Estate in Charlotte is probably 28202 (Uptown) ZIP code. Just an opion though!

Thumbs up Raleigh is a good choice

How about Raleigh? the Triangle area is very vibrant, has many of the Arts and it is about 3 hours from the mountains and about two hours from the ocean (traffic not figured in). We lived there before moving to the country, closer to the ocean, and found the Arts and Museums especially good and the general feel of Raleigh is that of a small city with big city things to do. There are a number of world class hospitals and medical facilities there so your husband will have many opportunities to further his accupuncture career.
