I agree- "age & stage", it makes all the difference. What is peaceful & feels right to me now would have been deadly dull when I was 21!

I think the moderators are too quick to ban people for even the slightest infraction.

Tonia Z is on a distinguished road
I recently moved to Raleigh from the Northeast (and lived in Miami for 5 years as well), and while most of the time I do love it here, there are some things I hope to see grow as well....first off I have never seen a place with so many days of beautiful blue skies! By far much better weather overall than both other places I"ve lived....however as a previous poster mentioned, the arts and culture, including music, etc. at least in Raleigh, could use more variety and diversity in these areas.

Taxes are high and property taxes are slated to go up due to the influx of families moving here, I'm hoping that will bring more of what makes a good city as well... Local politicians are pretty wishy washy as far as I"m concerned, I haven't been overly impressed...but again, I don't plan on moving anytime soon!

Default Avoid Nc Like The Yellow Fever

I'm telling you all this because i care it's frightenining to see so many people eagerly waiting to move into an area which already averages 179 persons per square mile. give the state 5-10 years they will never be able to keep up with the growing pains they are already experiencing, imagine traffic in once rural areas of western NC , smog and pollution a raped over land scape all of the beauty that made the area appealing will be gone soon. my humble suggestion is for anyone who is considering a move to avoid the NC area it will soon be nothing more than an overpriced and underdesired FLORIDA.

Wow, I probably have 80 people just living on my block! Sounds like there is plenty of room for people to settle down. If your neighbors/farmers would stop selling their acreage to developers things would stay the same, but I guess they want to take the money and run.

I lived in Raleigh/Durham, NC area for 12 years. Cost of living is great. Depending on your profession, or mission you can do well. Lack of opportunities in my profession demanded that I move and start over. Sold my house in January. Miss the large 1 acre lot and low cost for housing. Had to start thinking outside of the box and limiting my options. Have no regrets about moving. Never say never, but have no intententions of returning. Didn't leave anything there.

We're very interested in your money, and we're extremely eager to work for you. This really is an underappreciated county, and it has the dual benefits of being situated very close to some of the most rapidly growing counties and nicest beaches in the state and being far away from the traffic and noise that infests them. We do have something here other than yams, pecans, and strawberries, and we're nice to yankees.

Wow Griff! I'm seriously considering moving to NC from Cincinnati. I've been reading through the NC forums for a few hours now and your blog is THE BEST promotion of NC I've seen thus far! I will be sure to visit your area on my next trip to NC and check it out.

North Carolina is the hotness. For the next 10 or 15 years I see no end in sight for the area being really desirable. I think it is ideal for a lot of reasons. But most importantly it has a good mix everything of Country and City. Mountains and Beaches, Summer and Winter. Yeah, pretty much as good as it gets.

I don't live in NC and I ruled it out after a weeklong visit to Asheville and vicinity this year and research but I'm reading the forums. . .

Hey, i was reading your post and as I am right now trying to make a decision where to move to; my criteria are basically mountains, mountains, mountains, and I am looking at western North Carolina and Northern Georgia. I like Asheville, Waynesville, Brevard in NC and like the Ellijay area in Ga. My question is why did you "rule out" Asheville and NC. I would be very interested in your response, and feedback from others. thanks.
