Many New Yorkers don't have accents. And the rest wouldn't be caught dead in a Wal Mart.

I don't understand that mentality. Newcomers aren't looking for more strip malls, big boxes, or drug stores (what's with the Eckerds and CVSs by the way?). But they are being built anyway. My point was, they are being built for the newcomers, but you can't really blame us. I wasn't trying to make a case against big boxes or strip malls in general.
Our newest Wal-Mart is FILLED with Southerners, by the way. I've yet to hear a NY accent there.

Thanks for the backup Carolina Native, but I just don't think they understand us.

Sorry to offend your sensibilities. I'm just excersizing my right of freedom of speech. You have the right to the same, the last time I checked. Besides, people from the North are the worst for whining. I hear them constantly saying things like "There's nothing to do around here" or "We didn't do it that way up North (substitue NY, NJ, etc.)". I'm really just making the point that most newcomers don't really care about NC (people or the land), they just care about what they can get from it. They used to call these people carpetbaggers in the past.

I guess you will accept change when it benefits you, and will not accept it when you like things the way they are. Sound fair?
You seem to live by the saying. "if you cant beat them, join them."
I have seen growth bring quite a few benefits to where I live, new stores and places to eat, entertainment, etc. I also realize that people will move where they can afford a higher standard of living for less.
Growth however has gotten out of hand though. Should I just sit back and embrace bad growth and the destruction of areas that actually mean something to me? No I wont. Trust me on this, with the rate of growth to NC, if it continues for another 3-5 years, this place will become undesirable, to many just another stop on the way to cheaper living, to me its my home.

LOL, nice try. I come from a part of NJ that has been overtaken by NYers. You've never seen any one run so quickly as they did to the new Wal-Mart when it opened.
And trust me, even if you don't think you have and accent (like I did), once you are here, you do.

I am not benefitting in any way shape or form from YOUR state. I am quite happy raising my family in MY hometown, but it looks as though we may be transferred to the "ever popular" state of NC. I could sit here and boo hoo about being uprooted, or I can make the best of it. I choose to be happy!! (Though I must admit I am dreading it more and more everytime I read posts from certain users!!)

Well now, maybe they'll build another urban loop around your house to keep unsuspecting Southerners from venturing into your path.

I'm glad that you're privy to the origins and backgrounds of all Wal Mart shoppers. No doubt a Wal Mart greeter.
If you tell the NJ commuters to stay out of New York then I'll tell New Yorkers to stay out of New Jersey.
