Default Are schools all year round?

I am wondering if the schools in NC are off for the summers or a year round system?
Thanks

No, the schools are on a traditional 180 day school year. There are a couple of year round schools, but not many.

not many? Wake County makes more of it's schools year round every year. Mostly elementary schools right now, but they did just announce the first few year round middle schools this year.

Although other areas of the state have talked about it due to the huge influx of people moving to N.C. much of Wake County, ( Raleigh, Cary, Apex etc.) is the area that has increasingly gone to year round schools. Busing kids a long distance away from their homes there to other schools is also not uncommon. So you could move to one area and have your kids redistricted to an area away from where you live. If you use the forum search feature in the upper right, or look up the Raleigh News and Observer online and check their archives, there is a wealth of information about year round schools in Wake County.

Also, there is currently a thread on the Raleigh forum titled "Which schools will they go to?" that answers your question.

In the grand scheme of things... not many. I went to a year round school in Garner. Timber Lake Drive. Is it still called that?

Thanks,
My son would not like the year round program. He's in high school. I'll have to check into the schools before we move to certain areas.

I homeschool now but the school my children did attend offers both traditional and year round schedules. (Elon, NC)

The high schools are not year round, less crowding at that level, and also I hear there is a fear of disrupting the sports schedule, internships & college admissions.

some schools however are doing block scheduling. Where you take classes just for a semester.

I don't think there are any year round high schools. Southeast Raleigh is a "modified" calandar, which is almost like year round, but that's it. You wouldn't have to worry about SE Raleigh highschool though because it's not in an area that most would relocate too, and it's a magnet school.
