Registering an out-of-state leased vehicle in NC (leases, live)

So I have recently moved from NY to NC...I have already gotten my NC driver's license and now need to register and tag my car here NC. I can see on the DOT page the forms I need to have filled out for this process, but here is the problem I have.

The car is not registered to me, it is registered to my father, and the lease is in his name. In fact, my name appears nowhere on the registration or lease of the car-I just cut my father a check every month for the lease payment.

My father still lives in NY...I am down here in NC and need to register this car in my name in NC...will that be a problem since my name is not currently on the registration?

Yes, that's a problem, as only the owner can register a vehicle. Easily resolved though...you'll need to have your father's notarized signature on the necessary documents, then you can take those to register the car. You really should call your local license plate office to find out exactly what documents are needed to avoid any hassles or delays.

It was my understanding that some leases prohibit taking the vehicle out of state? I am pretty sure my last lease here in Michigan stated the car could not be titled outside Michigan?
