Hi just came across this while looking for info on fainting goats. I happen to live in Saluda, SC and we are very chicken friendly long as you don't free range all over town. I have 7.5 acers in town, paid 140,000, 3200 sq foot house on property but 2 lots big enough for small chicken house that would be screened from neighbors and was also thinking about fainting goats to keep down brush and to eat kids. Fainting goats are easier to keep in fences.
Check out Saluda's web site. I grew up here then married and lived away for 39 years and now I'm back and love it.
Lots of areas in Davidson County, too, that allow goats, chickens, horses, etc. It's rural, but not "backwoodsy".
There already is someone in the Greensboro area who does the goat rental thing, I saw them last year at a festival. They mostly go out to fields and areas covered with kudzu and gobble it all up.
