I got a ticket for failing to renew my truck registration a while back, and can either go to court last this month or pay the $230(!) fine, which is mostly court costs. I got the thing inspected, but blanked on the registration because I was traveling a lot around the time it was due. Some friends have told me I should go to court, but I'm not sure what good that would do since it seems like an open-and-shut case. Does anyone have experience with this?
Get it registered and go to court with your current registration. Most likely they will drop the ticket. Not sure if you will have to pay court costs or not. I think you may. But the ticket will be dropped.
Yes I did the same thing. Forgot to register and got pulled over. I was in court for less than 5 minutes.
You show them your new registration and they send you on your way.
I'm not sure where Sunny Kayak got that info from, but I didn't pay a dime in court. They brought up the ticket, stamped it and I was on my way. In fact I said to the clerk "That's it?" She said "Yep". I'd be surprised if I spent more than 45 seconds with the clerk.
That's just it, you never even see the judge. I think as long as you register right after the ticket in good faith, they realize people make mistakes and its easier to forgive the court costs than it is to tie up an actual judge for such "crimes". If someone paid $200 then there has to be more to the story, I would assume.
Never set foot in a courtroom for this. Get it updated and bring the proof to the courthouse. Get in line to see the asst district attorney, present your info and it gets dismissed. No fee. Done.
I've been through this twice, once for me and once for a family member. Show up with proof that everything is in order and they'll forgive the ticket - no money required.

X2
Except I've been nailed a lot more than twice
