Check out some places up in the mountains of North Carolina--you'll get a nice dose of small town America as well as see some beautiful sites.

Hi cheers for that, will certainly get around ought to be able to check out the surrounding areas.
The mountains appeal to me very much, think I might try charlotte as well, plenty to do and see I think.

Hi Roy,
When I read "holidaying" I knew there was an Englishman about. I can give you a little info on Mocksville...unfortunately very little. There is a great little bakery/cafe there called Ketchy Creek Bakery (I believed it's spelled right) located on Hwy 601 (which is the main street into town off of Interstate 40). Mocksville is also relatively close to Winston Salem which has quite a bit of nice things to see on holiday. I must ask, since southern girls are raised to be nosy...why holidaying in Mocksville?
Good Luck to you

I also live in Mocksville, a great place to live and raise your family, but I'm not sure I would want to vacation here. There really isn't much to do in Mocksville, except of course, have lunch at Ketchie Creek Bakery! If Mocksville peaks your interest for whatever reason, plan on stopping and spending an hour as you travel through the area to your next destination. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Hi again Roy,
USair offers a direct flight to Charlotte from London Gatwick. From Manchester... Delta goes into Atlanta, GA (possibly Asheville, NC on a connector flight) USair into Charlotte with layover in Philadelphia (in my experience Philadelphia is always a frustrating airport to fly through internationally.) United into Charlotte with layover through Chicago (much easier connection compared to Philadelphia.) Check on BMI. We booked our trip this past August on BMI...Manchester to Charlotte with stopover in Chicago. Good Luck
