From the article:

Quote:
Salaries for the new positions will vary by job function, but average annual salaries will exceed $32,270 plus benefits.
pfffft Uh huh

I'm glad to see the jobs come to the county; no disputing that; but the "average" annual salary? For whom?

When the last large business influx was announced - I think it was the plastics plant - I tried to find out what positions having that commensurate benefit were available. Having technical and managerial experience, I was interested to see if career opportunities were available. I found zip. Quite a few positions in the $7-10/hour range, but nothing higher. I think the positions in the $32k and higher range were already filled by people who were brought in to set up the plant and head the different areas.

I wish those kind of announcements weren't phrased with such an illusionary promise. Tell us that more jobs are coming to the county. Give the folks who are looking for good jobs and flipping burgers in the interim that there will be more opportunities. But don't puff us up with promises of $15-16/hour wages.

Plants have to have supervisors. This position in Charleston states salary between $30k -35k
Administrator, Product Development & Product Testing Support Job in Charleston 29492, South Carolina US

I can see the plant workers earning good wages, I had a friend who spun for Burlington Industries and he was earning $11 back in 1995.

These are not walk in apply jobs since this field isn't common like it use to be 18-20 years ago.

Training will need to take place.
For Davie County it will be at DCCC Davie Campus | Davidson County Community College
Rowan County at RCCC Navigate Forward | at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College
Bladen at Bladencc Bladen Community College - Dublin NC

And that is what needs to elaborated. Though, upon reflection, the media through which this information is passed can be blamed. Stories run hot or cold - uplifting news or doleful print. It's best to view the story as one that has been fluffed and take it down a couple notches.
