Red face Lenoir, Sawmills & Connelly area info please....

Ok, I am asking a lot here, but We are looking for a place that is 5000 or less in population, 1000 or more in elevation, that has good schools, nice people, cable Tv and internet (LOL) and where my hubby can find a good and stable job withing 30 to 40 minutes away.

Is there anyone on here familiar with this area? Do you know what the average rent will be? We want to start off renting until we live there a while and decide for ourselves where we want to buy.

Any onfo would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Roni Sue

Default Very Nice Town's

Hello,
Just wanted you to know that I live about ten minutes from each of the town's that you mentioned. Each of these town's are very nice, and has some pretty scenery, and nice people. The rent in this area usually run's around five hundred a month. Hope this has helped you out. Welcome to North Carolina.

The job is going to be the problem. Unemployment is high because most of the furniture jobs have gone to China.

This is making me sad. I have wanted to live in the NC mountains, Asheville to be exact for the last 20 years, but now that I am ready to make the move I have heard really bad things about the job situation. I don't want to actually "live" in Asheville, just close and I am willing to even give that up if I can still be in a small town in the NC mountians. I've even heard the rent is outrageous. How can they charge so much for rent but have so little good paying jobs? I don't want to but I may have to go to VA or even stay in East TN and I HATE TN with a passion.

Diva, look into Marion, 25-something miles from Asheville, that might be more affordable and offer a few different type jobs. What kind of employment are you going to be looking for anyway?

Well, my Hubby (to be) really likes Physical labor, go figure, LOL! Right now he is a Supervisor in a Saw Mill for a Log cabin place. He's done 911 dispatch, he knows his way around fixing computers, as in building and rebuilding, He can install satlilites, and just basic labor kind of stuff. He was in the Navy for 7 yrs, he is good at a lot of things and is really a hard worker and dedicated employee. He has to be deathly ill to miss a day. As a matter of fact the only time he has ever taken off work was when I had surgery complications earlier this year and almost died. He had to hold things together and take care of me while being scared out of his mind that he was losing me. Poor fella. He would be an asset to any company. We are hoping he can find a better paying job in NC and have better employers because here in TN, it's a good ole'boy thing, at least in our area, and if you are an "outsider" you are basically screwed. His company is LESS than loyal to him, nor do they treat him well at all. This is one of the many reasons we want to leave TN.
For myself, I perfer office work, but have waited tables, Dental assisitng, heck I even styled hair for a spin down in Savannah. I really only want pt work myself because I want to get back into college and get my degree.

I also hope there is a good YMCA or GYM around with Aerobics and such. I want to be certified and teach aerobics PT as well.

{PS} We will definatley look into Marion. Thanks!

also, what is the name of the Newspaper in Marion? Maybe we can look for jobs online or something?

Wink Job's In N.c

Hello again,
Thought I would let you know that the guy's that install cable and satilite's make very good money down this way. Also there are several log cabin manufactor's here in the area, I 'm pretty sure your huspand to be could get a job down this way. They are alway's ad's in the newspaper needing help to install cable. When you move he should go to the unemployment office nearest to where you will be living. Since he can do so many different job's I personally don't think he would have a hard time finding a job. Wish you the best.

Thank you so much! I think we have actually found a place North of us and in East TN still. It's a 45 minute drive to Asheville and close to Johnson city for jobs and such. It seems almost perfect so we are going to ride up there and check it out soon. I do appreciate everyones help. I think these city forums are an awesome tool for finding and researching possible places to live. The internet is a cool thing.

Hugs, Roni

Lenoir is awful. South Caldwell High is bad also. People here are rude and backward.
