Oh, and Wilmington winters are much milder than both Raleigh and Charlotte, which have frequent ice issues. The General rule of thumb in Wilmington is it is usually 10 degrees warmer in Wilmington during the winter months.
So if its 35 in Raleigh, its 45 in Wilmington...or 50 in Raleigh, its 60 in Wilmington...there are some days when it can be 20 degrees difference as fronts are coming through. Was in Winston Salem area early last spring for an event, left W-S at noon it was 45, when I got back to Wilmington it was 70. Makes golf a more year round sport in Wilmington.
The line breaks in the Triad. Greensboro and Winston frequently have frozen precip when the Triangle doesn't get any. It was probably in the 50s in the Triangle if it was 45 in Winston. Don't doubt it was warmer in Wilmywood, though.
I want to move to NC but have no idea what city, I have heard good things about Greensboro.
I live in MD.
How can you know you want to live in NC without knowing where? It's a very diverse state. Find a town/city that fits what you're looking for, regardless of what state it's in. It makes no sense to pick a STATE without knowing any more than that, without some odd reason like someone left you an inheritance only if you lived in a particular state, etc.

This irritates me more than anything. It's like asking "I want to buy a car, what should I buy?" Well, do you want a compact, larger sedan, hatchback? Do you want a manual or auto? What color?

You all are mean, there is nothing wrong with wanting to move to a general area without knowing exactly where, I think you are just being protective of your gem
If someone knows their criteria is: Few hours from both beach and mountains, seasons, mild winters, a blend of conservative and liberal areas, not too north but not too south..... don't you think NC is a decent recommendation? I have never lived in NC, but have visited and passed through a lot, and know I like the state in general, but don't have the experience to say which city is best for me.

So in other words, disregard everything you just said..
Wow that's not ignorant at all. So one can't have a valid opinion of a place based on visits alone, regardless of length or frequency of stay?
Okay, so I have never owned or rented a property in NC. But spending weeks on end with family there doesn't count as exposure to a place?
What would this world come to if people could actually come on this site and have friendly, experience-sharing discussions....
