This has been the law for sometime now. I doubt you can present the judge with an argument he hasn't heard before.

Again, I agree the fine is ridiculous, but the legal advice you are getting here on the internet forum is half baked

No, there still could have been an issue. 18-20 year olds are not allowed in ABC stores in NC regardless of whether or not parents/guardians are with them.

Was this an actual private "security guard" who wrote the ticket? Or did they call the police who issued the ticket?

It was probably an ALE agent.
They're the ones who enforce the alcohol laws in the state.
