The annual Pottery Festival is this weekend (Sat. and Sun) in Sanford. It is one of the largest pottery shows in the Southeast, and there will be work from artists throughout the region, including Seagrove.
It's held at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center and runs from 9-5.
Thanks for letting the community know, and once again, it was a great event.
We bought a great new bowl that I think we'll start as a "collection" because the pattern was so neat. And we saw loads of others that were fantastic, but just a bit beyond our budget for the day.
If you missed this year's festival, keep it in mind for next year. For those that love pottery, ceramics, and other crafts, it's something not to be missed.
But even with that in mind, the entire region surrounding Sanford is home to many of the potters there, and we have a nice showroom right off of Highway 1. So people can come through any time of the year and see the pottery, and visit some of the studios.
As you may know, the Seagrove Pottery Festival is a world famous event that has received media attention from "Good Morning America" and "Natonal Geographic Travel".
The Seagrove Pottery Festival is under rebel attack from a group that is attempting to overthrow the festival for the second time this year.
This is a critically important event to the economic health of hundreds of talented men and women in the Seagrove area.
In an effort to protect and defend this event, I have created the following blog:

Museum President Richard Gillson died earlier this year in a tragic fall at the downtown Seagrove Museum facility. A private interest coup d'etat is underway to capitalize on Richard's death.
The Museum needs help with media attention to bring these attacks into public opinion. Please visit the above link and help any way you can to preserve and protect this important event.
I have been a participant in the Seagrove Pottery Festival for the past 10 years and care about the Festival and the talented men and women of the Seagrove area.

Hello Lee Chesson,
Who is a board member of the Museum Traditional North Carolina Pottery -- a group located in a grocery store, that does not have a collection or a curatorial staff; the group does run and collect the proceeds from their Festival.
We declare independence. We the Seagrove rebels are the Seagrove Pottery Community that actually live in and around Seagrove, North Carolina. Please visit the Seagrove Potters at the Historic Luck Bean Plant (798 NC Highway 705). This genuine "Seagrove Potters" event will be held the weekend before Thanksgiving. Reason: the url did not come out right
Many of the Seagrove Potters, meaning those that live and work around Pottery Highway (main road through the town of Seagrove) pulled out of the Sanford Pottery Festival years ago due to negativity generated by one of the show promoters. These potters do not want the Seagrove show run and dominated by that person. Instead they have chosen to band together to do a festival for and by the potters of the real Seagrove area. It is a decision made in part because they do not support and were never given a chance to voice any opinion on the MTP buying a $400,000 grocery store to renovate at an unknown cost. The funding for which would come from these very people's booth fees and pottery donations. Until very recently that Board did not have a Seagrove potter, only two partners from Sanford, Lee Chesson from Lexington and others that are not considered to be artists. When things started to heat up, they suddenly put two pottery people from Randolph County on their Board. Transparency in a non-profit is an important issue and the MTP has never allowed the area potters to see how much revenue their pots generate and where that money is spent. This is required by law in order to maintain a 501c3 status. It is high time that the potters take charge of their own future, financially, creatively and showing unity in their community. The Celebration of Seagrove Potters (Celebration of Seagrove Potters - Weekend of Nov. 22, 2008) will be a high quality show, produced by the potters of Seagrove.
