Default Michigan or North Carolina?

I'm thinking of moving in a few years and with how the housing market is, I figured I would look into buying property now and hopefully get it cheaper then in a few years.

Anyways... I'm in Florida now, and looking at moving to either Michigan or North Carolina. My first thought was to go to Michigan, but after thinking about it, there are 2 things I'm not to sure I like. 1) The long cold winter. 2) I love racing and would probably be associated with it in some form, and North Carolina is obviously the place for that.

Anyone willing to give some pro and cons with Michigan and North Carolina?

I would be looking at buying a few acres of land (3-5) and building on it later.

Thanks

Default NC for sure

I now live in Michigan and have lived in NC for 14 years. I am soon selling my house here, pm me if interested, and moving back to NC.

The long cold winters are the pits, not because of the snow (234 inches last winter) or the cold but, because of the gloom that lasts for 4 months. Oh, and the lack of an ocean. The economy here is in the toilet. Google the governor, Jennifer Grandholm and you will see how bad it is.

I could go on and on but, you will need to be more specific in your desires.

Well I am moving from MI to NC in a few months, mostly because of the horrid economy, and the cold weather. In NC the economy is much better, and the weather is nice all year, plus you have mountains to the west and oceans/beaches to the east. And if you want to move look into Charlotte or Raleigh great cities! I by far like North Carolina WAY more! Good luck!

Leave your snowblower but stock up on sun tan lotion, sun screen and buy a good cooler for the beach! You're gonna love it here!

The Triangle area (where you've posted) is not really so racing-happy as the Charlotte area or other places like Hickory (the central-West part of the state is the *big* NASCAR territory).

Well, I am not sure what you are looking at for job prospects, but my guess is that NC will have more to offer than MI will for jobs.

DH is originally from MI and so he still has family there. So many, many people have been laid off and many are looking to move out.

Wow, my DH is from MI, moved to CA where we met and we lived there for almost 20 years (10 actually married, 10 as singles) and now live in NC!

I looked at your post and thought I had written it until I looked at your name!

DH likes NC best probably too. I miss CA terribly, but that is just me.

Dawn
