Yadda yadda yadda
Might I suggest that you have many anger issues that have nothing to do with the people you meet on the road every day in your daily commute.

when you do 5 over the speed limit and get your doors nearly blown off every day on a constant basis down these narrow rural roads, you will experience some frustration and anger.

Anger is always ego. Always. The situation may be incorrect. You may be absolutely right, and yet the anger is, nevertheless, ego. Certainly, a situation can need to be remedied, and yet you don't have to be angry about it. It is your prerogative to not like the situation, but the accompanying anger is a different story. Anger is no good. It is no good at all. It does not do you, others involved, nor the situation any good. You want to put out fires, not add to them.
Anger for itself serves no purpose, it provides only negative results, it has a negative effect on your health, and it shortens your life, the choice is yours.

I think it's funny that someone from Michigan is complaining about speeders. From my experience, Michigan (and Georgia) has some of the fastest drivers I've ever seen. Michigan drivers speed in the urban and rural areas too, (the OP mentioned about rural speeders in his area).
Now I agree that Ohio drivers drive slower (atleast while in Ohio) but they tailgate pretty bad though. I think midwestern drivers tend to use turn signals more than many drivers in the south.
My sister lives in North Carolina and I come up to visit, I find the drivers there not any worse than most places. In fact, they are better than most drivers in Florida and on many places on the northeastern seaboard.
When I drive, I notice bad drivers, but I don't let it get me down. I understand the frustration, but I just let them pass and forget about it.

My suggestion is for anyone wanting to experience the agressive driving in NC, is to travel any rural roads in either edgecombe, nash or wilson county for a week. You will see things that will just shock the heck out of you.

Well, if you are so adamant that there is a MAJOR problem with drivers in North Carolina, and you say it is not an issue with natives (people born in North Carolina), then you must be pointing the finger at transplants.

The deal with the double yellow, I NEVER drive under the speed limit like one poster mentioned, but I get slaughtered on the roads just the same way. I do 55-60 in a 55. I still get passed on double yellow lines, and I see people pass others on double yellow lines frequently around here. (I travel Highway 43 and 64 every day)
The other day on 43, this teenage kid pulled out to pass a school bus on a double yellow line, and there was a blue dodge charger behind him. That kid didnt realize that that charger was a unmarked cop, and instantly once he crossed the lines, the cop turned those blue lights on.
Also, for the people that do go 5-10 under the speed limit, people still have no right to pass them on a double yellow. 5-10 under is not illegal, and contrary to what the locals around here think, there is not a minimum speed limit on rural roads. It would be nice if everyone went the speed limit, but its not a perfect world.

This sounds like it has nothing to do with North Carolina, and I think it is misleading to characterize the entire state based on your personal experiences with two roads. Perhaps you should complain to the authorities of those areas (city/county police, city/county councils?)

I think the main issue in NC is the drivers ed programs in the schools. Kids here get it free of cost and the schools dont really care if the kids learn right or not. The DMV passes virtually every kid that comes in the door, and you end up with more teenagers on the road than other states. I believe that if NC charged the average $250 for drivers ed like was charged in MI,WISC,OH and IND, than you would see less kids on the roads. Some of my relatives up north could not take drivers ed because they could not afford it.
|
I don't understand the logic here. Are you saying that if we had fewer teenagers taking driver's ed, then we would have fewer teenage drivers on the road? It seems to me that we'd have the same amount of teenagers, and they would just be worse drivers.
And what leads you to believe that NC has more teenage drivers than these midwestern locales? Personal observation?

When it comes down to it, every state has bad drivers...ask me, I've lived in IL and FL! I share your frustration, NCTarheel07...my top pet peeves (and I've experienced them in every state I've ever lived in)...
1) Speeders through school zones. When the light is flashing, or it's during school opening and closing hours, there is NO excuse to speed. I'd like to see Henderson County take a look at Putnam County, FL and post deputies at school zones to curb this awful trend.
2) Red light runners...I'm not talking about the occasional, "I'm pretty sure I can make it through...Oops, I guess I can't" red light runner. I'm talking about blatent, it's already green going the opposite way when I blow through. My husband experienced one of these yahoo's and when my husband had to slam on his brakes to avoid an accident, the idiot had the audacity give my hubby the "What are you thinking?" look, complete with the head shake!
3) Although this isn't "driving", it drives me INSANE to see a child in a car/truck/van not restrained!!! What is WRONG with people?
As for Driver's Ed...I understand the problems the public school system is facing. Do I like that programs such as music, phys ed., and driver's ed are being cut...no, but if I had to choose, I'd rather my child know how to read and write. People forget that driving is a PRIVILEDGE...not a right...and a priviledge that should be EARNED. I am 31 years old and have been driving since I was 16 years old. I STILL heed the advice from my drivers education teacher every time I start up my car...especially with my DS and DD as precious cargo. If every driver on the road would exercise a little common courtesy to everyone else on the road, our roads would be much safer. Instead, I find that the growing trend is LESS courtesy extended and that's making our roads, no matter what state you live in, exceedingly violent.

I'm sorry you hate NC, perhaps there are other places you might not rage so about the people that live there. I am also sorry you chose to use the moniker you chose, that is reserved for natives, or at least long time residents, and really makes no sense since you apparently hate NC and everything here.

Hey, AG! I thought he was talking about you! My issue is the moron who views the space between me and the guard rail as an additional lane. How asinine is THAT? I figure that we must support our state employees in everything, so I pull out the 'phone and dial *HP with the location, tag#, make and model. Happy holidays!
