Hello,

I'm trying to get an idea of which area would be best to look in for a possible move in the future. I'm a young professional with a background in Finance (specifically in banking). I was born and raised right outside of Boston and although I love home, I'm not in love with the cost of living or the harsh winters.

I'd like to live in an area that reminds me of somewhat of home -- something close to the heart of the city with a Newton/Wellesley feel. Are there any suburbs that come to mind for anyone familiar with these areas of Massachusetts and NC? Any input would be great!

In Charlotte, do an image search for Dilworth, Wesley Heights, Myers Park, Elizabeth, Madison Park, Eastover, Plaza Midwood, and 4th ward. If any of those look like what you'd like, do a price search using the name of those neighborhoods.

From RI, went to school and lived in Boston. Nothing remotely close. Not happening.

since we have no metro area that can compare with Boston, and you love where you're from, the simple answer is No. And "not in love with" is far different from "can't stand anymore, and willing to give up what I DO love in order to get away from".

It also looks like you enjoy train/subway/mass transit. You might find areas along Charlotte's light rail line (as noted above) that suffice for your needs and wants. But these are neighborhoods, not separate quaint charming towns.

My advice; leave Boston and embrace where you are going. We all look for some sort of familiarity when moving to a new location, however, it sometimes causes us to miss the gems already in the new place because we are holding on to the old. Trust me on this, I speak from experience. Good luck.

I'll add NODA in Charlotte to your search as well. That area has some nice homes and light rail service into downtown from Noda starts in 2 months. Estimated train ride from Noda to downtown is 5-7 mins.

As others have said, you're not going to find that sort of thing down here. You should focus your job search in Charlotte since it's by far the biggest finance center in the state.

Embrace the change. If COL and harsh winters are what are driving you away from MA, you will love it down here. Keep an open mind.
