Thumbs down Are you kidding me?

We were forced to move here by the military. We have lived here for 9 years and we are finally leaving this awful state! If it had been our choice, we would have left 9 years ago. But the military saw fit for us to be here.

Worst towns in NC - well we lived in Raeford, which has got to be one of the worst, but through our adventures throughout NC, the whole state is in bad shape. Since we are "transplants", we have had the opportunity to experience life outside of NC and this whole state is in need of serious help.

The people - well you can forget about that whole "southern hospitality" thing. The people here are disrespectful, rude, selfish, uneducated... I could go on. Just read the posts of people who live here and I'm sure you'll see a fine example of the education system. And I hope that no one moving here is expecting to find people who are cultured because I haven't met a single "born & raised" North Carolinian who has left the state, even on vacation. There are some people who have never even left their town.

The environment, well, most of my opinion is based on not being from a climate like this one. It's way too hot and humid. In the summer, you'll need to take at least 3 showers a day just to feel clean. In the winter, well, if you like hanging your Christmas lights in shorts, this is your place.

As for things to do, we're too far from anything to comment. I'm sure there are lots of things to do in this state, but where we're located, all activities have to be planned and vacation days need to be taken. The coast is the closest, at about 2.5 hours, and that's if you like the crowded, party-type beaches. The hills - that's about 4-5 hours, not exactly a day trip. And the mountains - you're looking at 8-9 hours. Driving to a bigger city definately offers more, with Raleigh being about an hour away and Charlotte about 2 hours.

The roads - this state offers few scenic drives. Hope you're not expecting a clean road, as everyone here seems to just throw their trash out their window. And what's with the loaves of bread? Seems about weekly that we would see a whole loaf of bread (still in the bag) on the side of the road. I've seen everything from fast food containers to full diapers - not only on the side of the road but in the parking lots. Nothing beats pulling into a parking spot than having to step over a squished and splattered diaper. If people are like this everywhere, then it's no wonder that we have such environmental issues.

Education - that is probably the biggest joke ever. Had we been warned about the education system in Raeford, we would have avoided it like the plague. My husband and I both took classes at the local colleges and, let's just say that we took harder classes in high school. My kids went to school in Raeford and I think they have learned more over the summer than they did in school. I worked at that same school and from a behind the scenes view - A LOT needs to be done to fix the schools in Raeford. My husband and I joke that we've lost I.Q. points by living in NC.

The best reason I've heard yet for the pathetic excuse for the way they do things here - "That's the way it's always been done." And that quote, comes directly from the principal at my children's school. And the base commander.

I question the credibility of any post that is this one-sided, whether negative or positive. Not to mention, one person's misery is one TINY little part of an entire state does not make the entire state "awful".

I wouldn't say that because you've lived in a small more rural town, that it makes you an expert on NC. I moved here last year from the DC area and live in Raleigh and we love it. VERY educated workforce (50% of adults with 4-year degrees), colleges all around us, cool stuff to do, cool places to hang out. Sure there are things that are different, but if you truely have travelled all over the US, you will most defeintely see places much much worse then anything NC has to offer. Ever been to Rural TX, or NM. Ever been to LI, NY recently...I was born there and it will always have a piece of my heart, but it's crowded, expensive as hell and everyone seems to be miserable.

NC has a lot going for it, although I will admit there are places that leave little to be disired, but don't all states have those places?

lol Wow. Where to begin?

The eastern part of the state (not including the coast) does need some help. (Especially economically.) I agree there. Some parts are awful, but not all.

The people - I couldn't disagree more. I know many hospitable people in North Carolina. The nicest people I've ever known are here in NC.

I'm a native, "born & raised" North Carolinian and I have been outside of NC many times. I've lived in four other states and have visited several others. North Carolina is by far my favorite.

Beaches - there are uncrowded beaches in NC. You just have to know the right ones to go to.

Mountains - It takes you 8-9 hours to get to the mountains? lol Wow. It takes about 2-3 hours to get there from Greensboro. Which means it should only take you 4-5 hours from where you are. Which mountains are you going to? Do you make a lot of stops and/or drive slowly? I'm curious about that.

I really can't comment on the education system in Raeford. I'm sorry the schools there haven't been what you want for your children.

I wish y'all the best in life.

I think that Jacksonville is probably not the nicest place to live in North Carolina. I have never cared for it all. We call it "Jarville", but the town is nothing without the military. It is a seedy place in my opinion, and not a place to raise one's children.

Man you are the biggest troll on the board. Every thread you make, is about Raleigh sucking. If Raleigh is so bad. Why is it so important for you to make it known, more so than the fact of promoting Charlotte? Moron.

BAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think NC natives are rude, maybe it is because they are tired of you telling them how much better things were done at your home state. We happen to think that the constant whining and unsolicited criticism is rude.
I don't know if you lost the IQ points here, or brought the deficit with you, but "definitely" is not spelled "definately" as you indicate in your post. Even an old girl educated south of Raleigh knows that...
