I'm mystified, Sunny. Cherryville is just sort of tucked away in a corner of Gaston County, not bothering a soul.

Answered your own question

With the closest neighbors being Crouse, Tryon, and Waco..... It takes so long to get to I85... or 321 for that matter. And I never was a big fan of the Ironmen. It seemed like it took forever to get to Cherryville for Football games. I could never live 10+ miles from 85, 485 or 77

There are plenty of places in NC that are more inconveniently located than Cherryville. Whatv about them?

I looked at Cherryville & it was too inconvenient for my taste. It's not a bad place, just inconvenient. Since you chose it as being worst, what does that make Waco & Crouse, & countless other towns with even worse locations?

But you live in Raleigh and there are tons of transplants there as well.

But anyway, I stayed overnight in a town called Wilson, just east of Raleigh, about a month ago. Would never want to live there. People seemed a bit slow and unfriendly and for some reason it smelled like fried chicken in the morning...

i vote greenville as far as larger areas. you definitely pass some crappy looking towns driving from greenville to myrtle- trailer parks, dilapidated homes, and "meth= death" signs everywhere lol but i don't think anyone would think to move to those areas since they're all tiny towns.

I'm not positive of it, but I believe that is Southern Charm. They also seem to have a huge dislike of New Yorkers here. I don't know what you guys ever did to the south but New York yankees are the most hated kind here. I've heard that from more than one of the locals here.

In other words....why are u here? U are black. So........yeah, prejudice does indeed exist in WNC. Plus, I have relatives who lived in Marion, (they HATED it). Marion is a red neck dump and full of racists---mud slinging, meth labs, huge trucks, rough women, you name it. The problem is that these areas have always been poor. Poor mountain people don't "get out" much and aren't exposed to people of other cultures. That's where bigotry comes from in these instances.
Really, "poor mountain people?" I'll admit that there are some rednecks in Marion, and certain areas of Marion are pretty trashy and rough. Some of my family lived there at one point, and I've been there to visit them. While I do agree that some places are rough, the whole town isn't full of truck driving, meth using, minority hating, rednecks.

Sure, there are some small mountain towns that are very isolated, and therefore very set in their ways. Sometimes these ways do include racism, and the people come off as very trashy. However, this is not true for the entirety of Western NC. Look at Asheville. I'm not sure that there is a city in NC that is more gay-friendly, artsy, and hippie-ish than Asheville.

Don't generalize a whole area just because you had one bad experience. There are plenty of good people in Western NC, just like there are plenty of good people throughout the rest of NC. There are also bad people in Western NC, but there are bad people throughout NC.

Waco and Crouse don't generally cross my mind as a town, really. And I'm sure there are plenty of places in NC worse than Cherryville but of the ones I've visted Cherryville is the worst. And thats because I actually go there quite often and get very frustrated with the inconvenience whether it be from KM, Shelby, Charlotte, Gastonia, Hickory, Bessemer City, or any direction...

At least Lowesville, Mount Holly, East Lincoln etc. has a good connection to Huntersville, Northlake, and to 485.

And the locals Call it Cherr-Vull. Drives me Crazy also. And No, I didn't choke on a Cherry and now forever hate the city because of it.

I just can't argue the point that it's inconvenient. As long as you are acknowledging that are worse places, I understand where you're coming from - the worst place that you have to deal with.
