Worst towns in North Carolina? (Charlotte, Raleigh: low crime, college, living)

Franklin is a crap town. This place housed a White Aryan Brotherhood group a few years back, as well as other reactionary organizations.

Another one not mentioned on this past is Coates. My brother played music at a local festival there and talked about all the people with greasy torn jeans and missing teeth. It was the white trash or the white trash. I had heard similar comments from other people in unreated conversations.

Winston-Salem is a very nice town. Yes, they have their bad areas, but otherwise is a very pleasant place.

Kinston will be a large city one day. K-town will before any other eastern NC town.

Kinston has a lot of gang crime and the schools in the area are not good.

Thank you to everyone who posted honestly. I know it hurts to hear bad things about your hometown, but it really does help those of us uprooting our lives to hear the bad as well as the good. I greatly appreciate those who are willing to speak their minds.

I would also agree with Fayetteville as being one of the most undesirable towns in NC. I'm also not a big fan of High Point. I've lived all over (Greensboro, Raleigh, Lexington, Charlotte, Boone, Asheville, and Fletcher...of all those, my favorites have been Raleigh, Boone, and Fletcher (right outside of Asheville). Generally speaking, Eastern NC is a bit poorer than the rest of the state (except some very small mountain towns). You just have to decide if you like, city, beach, mountains, or a small town in-between. I'd be happy to tell you what I know about any of the places I mentioned I've lived. I've been in NC all my life, so I am familiar with a number of other towns, as well, if you want to know about any other places.

Jacksonville in my opinion is too overcrowded. I would miss being fairly close to the beach, but I prefer the mountains.

for instance, my hometown of Williamston has friendly people you can always depend on, a nice place to raise a family, new park for kids. The downside- A problem with crime in mainly ONE section of the town and if you are a teenager or young adult everything is closed after 9 PM and there are no clubs or anything of that matter; so you would have to drive to Greenville to see nightlife.

I don't know, maybe I'm biased because I am Williamston born and raised. But 2 hours west (give or take) your in Raleigh; 2 hours east (give or take) your at the beach. I think Williamston is a great place to live, don't let them "crime" make you think it's horrible.

And this comes from the mind of a teenager.

PS- Plymouth is a little stinky (smell wise) in my opinion. I know that's from Weyerhauser though. The town can't help that.

Wow, this thread has been so interesting and informative to peruse for these last couple weeks.
It was a breath of fresh air after all the threads in the Charlotte forum agonizing over which was the best development in Union County to buy in. Whew.

Anywhere East of Interstate 95 which includes most towns already posted.

Canton would be my choice for a western NC town not to move to. Its not that there arent pretty areas to buy homes there, but the paper mill stinks and im not sure about the air and water quality there.
